Captain Alex Chogyoji was born in Torrance, California, and was raised in Southern California as a fourth generation Japanese-American. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1994. In 2000, he was privileged to be matriculated into the Los Angeles Police Department Academy and commenced a professional career in law enforcement.
During his almost 22 years of tenure, he has been assigned to a variety of assignments, including a patrol officer at 77th Division, a Collision Investigation Field Training Officer at South Traffic Division, a Drug Recognition Expert Course Coordinator and Instructor at Training Division, and a Major Assault Crimes table detective at West Los Angeles Division.
Captain Chogyoji has served the Department in a supervisory capacity since 2009 and his assignments include Central Safer Cities Initiative Task Force field supervisor, Wilshire Patrol Adjutant and Assistant Watch Commander, Internal Affairs Division Associate Advocate, Security Services Division Watch Commander, and the Officer in Charge of the Special Operations Section at Security Services Division.
In 2021, Captain Chogyoji graduated with an Executive Master of Leadership degree from the University of Southern California, Sol Price School of Public Policy. He continues to pursue leadership training and is a consummate advocate of career development and mentoring. He is married and has one daughter.
