Captain Perry Griffith was raised in the Hyde Park Community of South Los Angeles. He was hired by the Los Angeles Police Department in 1989 and completed his probation at 77th Street Division. Griffith remained at 77th Street Division, where he assumed several assignments, which included Special Problems Unit, Training Officer and Senior Lead Officer (SLO).
In 2008, he promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to Wilshire Division in West Bureau. He later found an opportunity as the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the Youth Program Unit (YPU) within the Office of Operations. While at Office of Operations, he was assigned to Evaluation and Administration Section (EAS), where he assisted in drafting policy and procedure.
In 2012, he promoted to Lieutenant. His first assignment as Lieutenant was at Hollenbeck Division, in Central Bureau. He then moved to Southwest Division as a Watch Commander. He remained at Southwest for some time and was promoted to Detective Commanding Officer. In this role, he implemented several procedural changes to promote efficiency within the unit. In addition, he created the Detective Operational Best Practices for the entire South Bureau.
He has a Master’s degree in Leadership & Management, Organizational Development from the University of La Verne.
In 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and is currently assigned to Southeast Area as the Patrol Captain.
