The son of a Los Angeles Police Department veteran, Captain Joseph Broussard followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the LAPD in 2001. After graduating from the police academy, Captain Broussard worked several assignments as a police officer in Newton, Harbor, Operations-South Bureau, 77th, and Olympic Areas. His assignments included Patrol, Special Problems Unit, Operations-South Bureau Gang Enforcement Detail, Field Training Officer, Vice, and the Parole Compliance Unit.
After promoting to the rank of Sergeant in 2013, Captain Broussard spent time in 77th Area, Criminal Gang Homicide Division, and Operations-South Bureau. While assigned to OSB he was upgraded to Sergeant II and assigned as the Officer in Charge of the Gang Enforcement Detail.
In 2019, Captain Broussard promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to Devonshire Area and 77th Street Area, where he served as the Patrol Watch Commander. In 2020, Captain Broussard was selected as the Officer in Charge of the 77th Gang Impact Team. He was then selected in 2022 to serve as the adjutant to the Operations-South Bureau Deputy Chief.
In 2024, he was promoted to his current rank of Captain, where he serves as the Commanding Officer of Central Patrol Division. Captain Broussard is committed to the partnerships with the community he serves to further strengthen the relationship with the Department.
Captain Broussard graduated from Fullerton College and received an Associate of Science Degree in Administration of Justice. His passion for education and leadership led Captain Broussard to continue his education while on the job, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Union Institute and University. Captain Broussard has also completed the Sherman Block Leadership Institute and Los Angeles Police Department Leadership Programs.
Captain Broussard is married to his wife of seventeen years and has two daughters. In his spare time, Broussard enjoys spending quality time with his family and enjoying outdoor activities.
