Jonathan Larsen

Bio

Captain Jonathan Larsen was born and raised in Lancaster, California. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from California State Bakersfield and Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Union University. While going through college, he operated his family’s farm and dedicated his free time to volunteering with the youth in his community, and mentoring those in the local 4-H, Grange, and FFA programs. He is a youth volunteer for his local church and serves the members of his faith. In his free time, he continues to spend time with his family, volunteering with young people, and raising livestock. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 2003.

Captain Larsen worked in numerous patrol divisions and assignments throughout the department. In 2007, he was selected as a member of the Violent Crime Task Force in Operations-Valley Bureau where he worked to identify violent criminal offenders targeting the streets in the San Fernando Valley. In 2009, he was selected as a Field Training Officer, where he returned to Van Nuys Division and helped to train and mentor the new probationary officers and future leaders in the Los Angeles Police Department. In 2010, he was selected as a Department Chaplain, where he continues to work with those officers and families who are in need or have gone through a traumatic event in their lives.

In 2014, Captain Larsen was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to Topanga Patrol. He was the sole supervisor of the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) where he worked to combat property crime plaguing the west-end of the San Fernando Valley. He transferred to Custody Services Division, where he was the Assistant Watch Commander and later transferred to Hollywood Division where he served as both the Patrol and Area Adjutants to the Commanding Officers.

He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2021 and assigned to West Valley Area as the Patrol Watch Commander. Lieutenant Larsen was then selected as the Officer-in-Charge of the Crisis Response Support Section at Detective Support and Vice Division, where he became a subject matter expert in the field of mental health. He has made numerous presentations on issues related to policing persons suffering from mental illness at various functions and continues to mentor and consult with various agencies in the creation and evolution of their Alternative Crisis Response Teams as well as the Law Enforcement Field Intervention Teams.

In 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned to Security Services Division.
