19-year-old Driver Killed in Traffic Collision NR21116wc

Northridge: On April 22, 2021, around 2:05 pm, a 2021 Maroon Hyundai Genesis was traveling southbound on Winnetka Avenue at an unsafe speed when it ran a red light and collided with a 2006 Silver Toyota Tacoma making left turn at Nordhoff Street. The Maroon Genesis continued in a southwestern direction and collided with a traffic signal device before coming to rest against a wall.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the driver of the Genesis to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The decedent is a 19-year-old male resident of Roslindale, Massachusetts. The decedent's name will be withheld until proper notification to his next of kin.

The driver of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma, a 25-year-old male resident of Granada Hills, California was not injured in this traffic collision.

This investigation is still ongoing.

Motorists are reminded that they must obey the rules of the road and drive at a safe speed. Speed and distractions can cause serious collisions and death. Motorists are also reminded to always wear their seatbelts properly while operating a motor vehicle.
