"South Traffic Detectives Investigate a Fatal Hit and Run Collision"
 

Los Angeles: On Sunday, February 3, 2002, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a fatal hit and run, auto vs. pedestrian, traffic collision occurred in the area of Arlington Avenue and 25th Street. The victim, Nicolas Diaz, 49 years old of Los Angeles, was attempting to cross Arlington Avenue westbound in the unmarked crosswalk. As Diaz crossed the street, he was struck by a van traveling southbound on Arlington Avenue. The driver of the van failed to stop, and render aid or call for emergency medical assistance. A witness to the collision described the van as a possible Ford, red or blue in color. The witness was unable to obtain the van’s license plate number.
Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene. Mr. Diaz succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
