July 17, 2011

Los Angeles:  A party was interrupted Saturday night by gunfire that hit at least two people, killing one.

On July 16, 2011, about 11:20 p.m, Foothill Area Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of a possible Assault with a Deadly Weapon in the 7800 block of Lemp Avenue. As they arrived they found multiple victims of gunshots.

One of the victims, 24-year-old Francisco Martinez of North Hollywood, had been attending a party at a residence with a couple of friends. An unidentified group of people walked up to Martinez and his friends and began shooting.  Martinez and at least one other person were struck by gunfire.

Martinez was transported to a local hospital by Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel where he was pronounced dead a short time later.  The other victim was also transported for treatment of his injuries and was listed in critical condition.

It is unclear what sparked the shooting, but Detectives do believe it is gang related.
