WHAT:
International PredPol (Predictive Policing) Day of Action

WHEN:
Wednesday, August 14, 2013
12:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.

WHERE:
Foothill Police Station
12760 Osborne Street
Pacoima, CA 91331

WHO:
Captain Sean Malinowski, Foothill Area Commanding Officer

WHY:
LAPD’s Foothill Area pioneered the use of crime forecasting technology. Our efforts led to PredPol, a tool now widely used throughout the United States and also in the United Kingdom.  Foothill Area will be participating in an international event with our sister agency, the Kent Constabulary (Kent Police Service) for our first International PredPol Day of Action. The idea was developed by the Kent Police Department in the U.K. and we are pleased and excited to join with them and the other agencies throughout the U.S.

Our plan is to maximize positive and healthy activity and presence in each of the PredPol zones in this 24 hour period.  To accomplish this, we are teaming with our public safety partners and community groups to activate these areas.  There will be directed patrol as well as neighborhood meetings in the forecast areas throughout the day. We will run the PredPol maps for the day in each of the targeted crime categories.  These maps will be distributed to our public safety partners and neighborhood groups.  Our goal is to have a positive impact on crime and the overall quality of life in these areas.

The use of PredPol’s crime forecasting has assisted in bringing crime down in Foothill Area over the past two years and we look forward to continuing to accelerate the pace of innovation when it comes to our crime prevention efforts.  We will be joining agencies across the U.S. and U.K. in maximizing the use of this tool and in working together to make a difference in the San Fernando Valley’s Foothill Area.

**** Captain Sean Malinowski, Foothill Area Commanding Officer, will be available for media interviews throughout the day of this event.  Media ride-alongs may also be arranged on a limited basis.
