Young people are not exempt from the effect of hate crimes. Many public and private schools have experienced hate crime incidents. Hate crimes lead to tension between groups and, unless they are dealt with, the problem will not go away. School Administrators, parents and police need to take an active role in combating these problems.
There are several organizations that have programs to help young people deal with hate crimes. The Department of Justice has information on the Internet which will help youth learn how to deal with prejudice and by people of different backgrounds.
