was born in the City of Torrance, California, and lived in South
Los Angeles as a child. In 1993, he enlisted in the United States
Marine Corps, where he served as a Combat Engineer. His assignments
included Special Operations Training Group, and 1st Marine
Division, Combat Engineer Battalion. He was honorably discharged as
a sergeant.

In July 1998, Captain Hurtado fulfilled his lifelong goal of
becoming a Los Angeles Police Officer. As probationary police
officer he completed training at Rampart Patrol Division. He
wheeled to Wilshire Patrol, and worked as a Field Training Officer,
Gang Enforcement Detail, and a Senior Lead Officer. In 2005, he
joined Metropolitan Division where he worked Special Weapons and
Tactics until his promotion to sergeant in January 2013. As a field
sergeant, he worked 77th Street Division, as well as an Assistant
Watch Commander in Newton Division. He was promoted to lieutenant
in January 2017 and worked Northeast Division as a watch commander
before transferring back to Newton Division as the Gang Impact
Team, Officer-In-Charge. In 2018, he was upgraded to Lieutenant II
at 77th Street Area as the Gang Impact Team, Officer-In-Charge. He
remained there until his promotion to the rank of Captain.

In February 2020, Captain Hurtado promoted to the rank of Captain
and was assigned to Foothill Area as the Patrol Commanding
Officer.

In November 2020, Captain Hurtado transferred to Hollenbeck Area as
Patrol Commanding Officer and oversees the daily operation of
Hollenbeck Patrol sworn and civilian personnel.

Captain Hurtado has received the Medal of Valor, Two Police Stars,
and the National Top Cop Award. His Education includes a Bachelor
of Science in Criminal Justice Management, and a Master's Degree in
Executive Leadership, from the University of Southern
California.
