LAPD Officer arrested for Prescription Fraud NR11315SF

July 11, 2011

Los Angeles:  Officer Joseph Caseres, a 22 year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), assigned to Rampart Patrol Division, was arrested today pursuant to an arrest warrant for Health and Safety Code 11173 – Prescription Fraud.  On July 8, 2011, a grand jury hearing was held and Caseres was indicted on nine counts.

Caseres surrendered this morning to agents from the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, and to investigators from LAPD’s Special Operations Division, Workers’ Compensation Fraud Unit.   Investigators, working in partnership, established probable cause to believe that Caseres had engaged in “doctor shopping” and fraudulently obtained narcotic prescription medications.

Caseres was arrested at Rampart Area Station without incident. Caseres was booked at the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail and is held in lieu of $20,000.00 bail.  Caseres was placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of both the criminal and administrative investigations.
