The Wilshire Area Community Police Station provides service to a diverse residential population that exceeds 251,000 people. Throughout the day, the business and residential population swells to approximately 500,000 people due to those who pursue knowledge and skills training at educational and professional institutes, and those who work or visit Wilshire’s business and residential neighborhoods.
As a community police station, Wilshire protects and serves people within the station’s boundaries that cover 13.97 square miles. The cities of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood and the Police Stations at Hollywood, Rampart, Southwest and West Los Angeles border Wilshire’s boundaries. Wilshire is under the jurisdiction of the West Bureau.
Community members within Wilshire’s boundaries are one of the most diverse populations, if not the Department’s most. Wilshire’s population is 42% Hispanic, over 105,000 people, 20% Asian and White non-Hispanic, over 49,500 and 49,200 people respectively, 16% Black non-Hispanic, over 40,200 people, and 2% mixed race, over 5,300 people. Additionally, other races such as Native American and Pacific Islander live throughout the Wilshire Area.
These community members are involved in business, charity, civic, clergy, consulate, cultural, educational, entertainment, medical, political, recreational and residential activities. There are churches, City Council Districts – the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 10th Districts, foreign consulates, hospitals, major shopping malls, parks, public and private country clubs and golf courses, schools and synagogues, television companies, temples, and theaters. Although there are many unique locations, the Beverly Center, CBS Studios, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Farmers’ Market, five star hotels, Grove Shopping Center, La Brea Tar Pits, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Pertersen Automotive Museum, and Wiltern Theater are landmark locations. Additionally, there are significant communities such as the Byzantine Latino Quarter and the Jewish Community.
