born and raised in the City of Los Angeles. He is one of six
children. He graduated from James A. Garfield High School in East
Los Angeles in 1988.

Upon his graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps
where he was stationed at Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan and Camp
Lejeune, North Carolina. During the 1990-1991 Gulf War, he was
deployed to Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert

In 1997, he graduated from the University of California, Los
Angeles, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Political

He joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1998, working a
variety of assignments including patrol, narcotics, vice, and Field
Training Officer. In 2006, he was promoted to Detective and
assigned to Newton Division. He promoted to Sergeant in 2008,
working Rampart Division, Northeast Division where he supervised
the Gang Unit, Office of Operations, and later 77th Street
Division-Community Relations Office. In 2016, he was promoted to
Lieutenant and was assigned to Olympic Division. In 2019, he was
promoted to Captain, assigned as the Patrol Commanding Officer of
Rampart Area.

He holds an Executive Master of Leadership degree from the
University of Southern California, Sol Price School of Public
