He and his partner stopped at a store to purchase new batteries. As Officer Kent walked into the store he immediately noticed he just walked in on a robbery. As Officer Kent drew his gun the suspect began firing and hitting Officer Kent. Officer Kent returned fire, but missed the suspect. As Officer Kent fell to the ground his partner engaged the suspect in gunfire but neither the robber or Officer Kents partner were hit, and the suspect fled the location. Officer Kent died of his injuries.
Every day, the members of the LAPD put their lives on the line. We remember and honor the officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty who have lost their lives while serving the people of the City of Los Angeles.
