Suspect Fails to Yield to Officers

March 8, 2008

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police officers observed a female suspect driving in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed through several residential streets.

On Friday, March 7, 2008 at around 11:05 p.m., a Southeast Area patrol unit observed a vehicle in the area of 88th Street west of Broadway Avenue. The vehicle, being driven by a female, continued to drive recklessly as it sped west on residential streets. The officers advised Communications Division that they were following a vehicle that was failing to yield. Moments later, the vehicle stopped at 90th Street and Vermont Avenue. As the officers exited their vehicle, in an attempt to make contact with the driver, the suspect sped off. The officers decided not to engage the vehicle in a pursuit. Their decision was based on the fleeing vehicle’s speed, traffic conditions, type of offense, and public safety.

An LAPD Air unit was overhead attempting to catch up with the speeding vehicle as it fled south on Normandie Avenue. No police units were following on the ground. At Rosecrans Avenue and Normandie Avenue, the LAPD air unit had just illuminated the rear of the suspect’s vehicle when it collided with two other cars.

The traffic collision occurred in the City of Gardena and therefore will be investigated by the Gardena Police Department.

The driver of the suspect’s vehicle received moderate injuries and was booked by Gardena Police.
