Van Nuys: On Thursday, May 23, 2002, at 1:00 p.m., Van Nuys Homicide Detectives will hold a press conference regarding the murder of a three-year old boy. Officers responded to a local hospital where they ascertained that the three-year old victim, Alfredo Cardenas Jr. was the victim injured at an initial radio call on Blythe Street. At the hospital, Cardenas failed to respond to treatment and was pronounced dead as a result of being shot. No motive for the shooting has been established.
The suspects were identified during the subsequent investigation and arrested after the service of arrest and search warrants this morning. Detectives are also requesting the community’s help in locating additional suspect(s).
The names and pictures of the suspects will be released at the time of the conference. The victim’s family will be available for questions. A Spanish speaking officer will be available for the Spanish media.
