Help Solve Gang Murder in North Hills NR13233pv

July 11, 2013

Los Angeles:  Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old man inside the foyer of an apartment building this morning, July 10, in North Hills.

“One thing is clear, this is gang related and the oft tragic consequence when gang rivals meet,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the Mission Detective Division.  “We have few clues to go on right now, so we’re hoping someone will step up to help detectives.”

The shooting occurred inside the apartment foyer in the 8500 block of Columbus Street.  It was about 4 AM when the victim, his girlfriend, and another man were standing in the foyer and another man opened fire then called out a gang name.  The victim was wounded, but the other man and the woman were not injured. The victim died soon after at a local hospital.

The shooter was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s with no other details.

While this is the second homicide in three days, detectives do not believe the two shootings are related.
