Los Angeles – On Saturday, July 7, 2001, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Rampart patrol officers responded to a "Shots Fired" investigation on the 930 block of Tularosa Drive. Upon arrival, officers found the victim down on the driveway step suffering from a gunshot wound. The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that sometime after midnight, the victim was confronted by an unknown suspect. Witnesses heard gunshots and observed a possible suspect running southbound on Tularosa Drive. Witnesses also observed a brown or silver Toyota driving southbound from the location.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 506, 140 lbs., wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants; the weapon has been described as a large caliber semi-automatic handgun.
The motive for the shooting is unknown. The weapon and suspect(s) are outstanding. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
