38 Year-Old Woman Shot and Killed

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department detectives assigned to Robbery-Homicide Division are investigating the murder of 38 year-old Virginia Alvarez, a resident of Pico Rivera.
On Saturday, July 5, 2003, at about 8:30 p.m., the victim and her husband had just parked their vehicle outside of the Villa Sombrero Restaurant located at York Boulevard in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles. When the victim got out of the vehicle through the passenger side door, she was approached by a lone male who shot her at close range.
The motive for the shooting is unknown. The suspect is only described as either a male Hispanic or White, unknown age.
Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Ms. Alvarez was a civilian employee of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. There is no indication that her employment status was a factor in this crime.
