Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic Division Detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect involved in a hit and run collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
On Sunday, September 14, 2014, around 7:50 p.m., Central Traffic Division Officers were called to investigate a hit-and-run traffic collision that occurred on Avenue 50 and San Marco Place.
The suspect’s car, an older model Honda Civic, was travelling south on Avenue 50 when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing Avenue 50 in a marked crosswalk. The driver never applied the brakes and fled south on Avenue 50, causing fatal injuries to the pedestrian.
The suspect drove away without rendering aid or exchanging information, in violation of 20001VC, Hit and Run Felony.
The victim, 57-year-old Gloria Ortiz, a resident of the city of Los Angeles, was pronounced dead at scene by LAFD paramedics.
According to witnesses, the driver of the vehicle is possibly a male Hispanic who was distracted by his cellphone. The suspect’s car is likely to have damage to the front windshield. Central Traffic Detectives are looking for additional witnesses who may have seen this collision.
