Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in a fatal hit and run collision.
On October 6, 2019, at approximately 3:40 a.m., an unknown vehicle traveling southbound Figueroa Street, collided with a pedestrian who was crossing eastbound Manchester Boulevard at Figueroa Street on the south side crosswalk.
After being struck, the victim laid motionless on the ground and was struck a second time by a silver Chevy Traverse whom remained at scene.
The unknown vehicle fled the scene, failing to stop and render aid after striking the pedestrian.
The victim died at scene. The victim was identified as Wardell Nelson Jr. 61-years-old, from Los Angeles.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should stop, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
