"7 Year-Old Boy Dies in Traffic Collision"
Palms Area – On Friday, August 11, 2000, at approximately 2:20 p.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Venice Boulevard in the Palms area of Los Angeles. The driver of a commercial tractor trailer, identified as a 47 year-old man from Los Angeles, was traveling westbound on Venice Boulevard and began a right turn onto northbound Sepulveda Boulevard. As he made the turn, a 7 year-old boy, who was riding his bicycle westbound on the sidewalk of Venice Boulevard rode into the street and into the rear tires of the truck. The child sustained massive injuries and was transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. The child did not respond to treatment and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the truck was not arrested or cited at this time. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by West Traffic Division Detectives.
