Los Angeles: The LAPD Criminal Gang/Homicide Division, Southeast Squad detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing information about a shooting that lead to the murder of a 31-year-old South Los Angeles resident.
On September 17, 2011, at 11:25 p.m., LAPD Southeast Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the 9900 block of South Anzac Avenue. When they arrived they saw a man suffering from a gunshot wound. LAFD rescue personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives say the victim, identified as Jesus Orosco, was having a birthday party for a family member at his home in the 9900 block of South Anzac Avenue. During the party, 19-year-old Luis Padilla became involved in a dispute with another party member. When Orosco tried to intervene and stop the confrontation, Padilla pulled out a gun and shot Orosco. The motive for the murder was gang related.
During the investigation Southeast Area Gang Enforcement Detail officers located Padilla in the Jordon Downs Housing Development and arrested him. Subsequent to the arrest, officers recovered a handgun.
Padilla was booked for murder and transported to 77th Jail and held in lieu of $1 million bail.
