Arrest Made in Local College Student’s Murder NR19184jl

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department detectives assigned to Robbery-Homicide Division have made an arrest for the March 10, 2019 murder of a local college student, Victor McElhaney.

On Sunday, March 10, 2019, Victor McElhaney was out with his friends when a group of Hispanic males attempted to rob them in the area of Adams Boulevard and Maple Avenue. During the commission of the attempted robbery, one of the suspects shot and killed McElhaney. The suspects fled in a vehicle to an unknown location.

During the course of the investigation, Robbery-Homicide Division assumed primary investigative responsibility for the case. Based on evidence and witness statements, Robbery-Homicide Detectives identified Ivan Hernandez as the one of the individuals responsible for murdering Victor McElhaney. On June 28, 2019, Robbery-Homicide Division, in conjunction with Newton Area Gang Enforcement Detail and Gangs and Narcotics Division, arrested Ivan Hernandez for 187 PC, Murder.

On July 2, 2019, detectives presented this case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, Major Crimes Section. Deputy District Attorney filed one (1) count 187 PC, Murder and (1) count, 664/211 PC, Attempted Robbery. Additionally, the Deputy District Attorney filed 186.22(b)(1)(C), Gang Allegation and 12022.53(d), Firearm Allegation.
