Los Angeles: On May 16, 2022, surveillance footage of a man violently punching his dog multiple times was forwarded to 77th Street Area via Crime Stoppers. The video was also posted on several social media sites. On May 17, 2022, 77th Street Area released a Community Alert related to the video asking the public to provide information regarding the suspect and incident to detectives.
Detectives conducted an extensive investigation in an attempt to identified the suspect and verify the condition of the dog. On May 19, 2022, detectives made contact with the suspect and convinced him to come to the station with his dog and the vehicle seen in the video. Around 3:30 p.m., the suspect arrived at 77th Street Station and was taken into custody by Operations South Bureau, Community Safety Unit (CSU). The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Jaquon Collier. Collier was booked for 597(A) PC – Felony Animal Cruelty, with a bail of $45,000. Collier’s dog was successfully recovered by officers and is being cared for by LA City Animal Services. The dog did not have any visible injuries but was evaluated by animal services medical personnel. The dog will not be released to Collier and at the direction of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, is currently being held as evidence in this case.
