"Attempt murder investigation"

Panorama City – On Wednesday, November 22, 2000, at 9:45 p.m., Devonshire Area patrol officers responded to a report of an "ADW with shots fired", at an apartment complex situated in the 8400 block of Willis Avenue. Upon their arrival the officers were advised by residents of the complex a male Hispanic victim had been shot and was transported to Mission Community Hospital by relatives. Additional officers responded to the hospital and were advised by the attending medical staff members the victim was in extremely critical condition relative to multiple upper body gunshot wounds.

Officers at the scene observed physical evidence indicating a shooting had occurred, and they secured the location pending notification of Detectives. Devonshire Area Homicide personnel arrived in order to process the scene and interview witnesses. Witness accounts indicated the victim is a tenant of the apartment complex. A group of an unspecified number of males had congregated within the confines of the complex and were creating a disturbance. The victim chastised the group and advised them they should leave the premises. Several of the males began driving from the complex onto Willis Avenue in two vehicles. An occupant within one of the vehicles fired several rounds from an unknown type firearm at the victim as he stood in the apartment foyer. The victim was struck and he collapsed as the suspect vehicles fled the scene.

The victim has been described as a male, Hispanic, twenty-four year of age, resident of Panorama City. He remains in critical condition at local area hospital. The identities of the shooter and other members of the disturbance group remains under investigation. The suspects are described only as male Hispanics. The involved vehicles are described only as a black Honda and a white pick-up truck. The vehicles were last seen southbound on Willis Avenue toward Roscoe Boulevard.
