UPDATE
On March 9, 2023 around 9:35 p.m., 22-year-old Jose Ortega was arrested in the County of Orange. Ortega was booked on the following charges:
(4) Counts of 664/187(A) PC Attempted Murder
(4) Counts of 245(A)(2) PC Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Firearm
(1) Count of 246 PC Discharging Firearm at Inhabited Dwelling, Vehicle
Ortega is being held on $1,000,000.00 bail, booking #6565878.
San Pedro: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Area Gang Impact Team, is currently investigating a shooting which resulted in five people sustaining gunshot wounds.
On Saturday, March 4, 2023, around 5:45 p.m., the victims, along with several other people, were at Royal Palms Beach located at 1800 W. Paseo Del Mar. The victims were approached by two suspects, whom they did not know, and the groups became involved in a verbal altercation. The interaction quickly turned violent and was followed by a shooting where five individuals were struck by gunfire. Multiple people fled the area, and numerous calls to 911 were generated.
The suspects described as two males, fled the area in a vehicle described as a light-colored sedan.
Harbor Division officers quickly responded to the scene where they discovered four victims who were struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital by the Los Angeles City Fire Department. Three of the victims are in stable condition and one victim remains in critical condition.
The fifth victim self-transported to a local hospital and was treated for multiple gunshot wounds. He is expected to recover.
Of the five victims, three have been treated and released and two remain hospitalized.
Detectives have canvassed the area and are investigating all leads. The investigation is currently ongoing. Detectives are requesting the assistance of any witnesses present at Royal Palm Beach during the incident to come forward. Additionally, any persons who captured cell phone video of the altercation prior to the incident, or the shooting, are requested to notify detectives.
