Los Angeles: Working on the Pacific Ocean beach as an LAPD patrol officer has always been a coveted work assignment. Now there is an added incentive to the popular patrol beat: operating a Quad all terrain vehicle on patrol across the sands of Venice Beach.
On May 7, 2003, three Kawasaki Quad All Terrain vehicles will begin deployment by the LAPD Venice Beach patrol Units. The black and white ATV units are marked with police insignia and full functioning emergency equipment. Twelve officers are assigned to the specialized units. With over a million tourists and visitors enjoying the Venice Beach Area, the police units will provide a rapid response to emergency situations, as well as an excellent mode of transportation in a unique patrol area.
