Los Angeles: On March 1 2004, at about 8:00 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred at 115th Street and Wilmington Boulevard in Southeast Area. Abraham Tovar, 48 years old, was driving with his wife, 48 year-old Sara Tovar and their son, nine year-old Steven Tovar, in his 2003 Honda Civic.
Tovar made a left turn onto Wilmington Boulevard from Willowbrook Avenue when his car collided with a Metro Rail Train. Mrs. Tovar, who was wearing a seatbelt, received blunt force trauma to her head and died the scene. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and rescued Tovar and his son from the car. Abraham Tovar’s right arm was severed and he sustained blunt force trauma to the head. Steven received minor injuries only. Both were taken to nearby hospitals. Abraham Tovar is listed in critical condition and Steven is listed in stable condition.
At this time, it is unknown how many passengers were onboard the Metro Rail Train. However, nine passengers received minor injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.
There was no evidence that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
