Why:
Annually, the Los Angeles Police Department hosts a Memorial Ceremony to honor LAPD officers killed in the line of duty.  The ceremony will be attended by LAPD personnel, City officials, members of the community and family members of fallen officers.

Included in the Memorial Ceremony will be a special tribute to LAPD Officers Joshua Cullins and R.J. Cottle who were killed during active military service in Afghanistan.

In addition, the Department will honor 13 officers who were killed in the line of duty from 1911 to 1933.  Restored portraits and personal stories of the 13 officers are currently on display in the lobby of the Police Administration Building through the month of May.

The program will also feature the traditional “roll call” of fallen heroes, a 21-rifle volley, a “missing man” formation helicopter fly-over, the rider-less horse, the symbolic sounds of bagpipers playing Amazing Grace and buglers playing Taps.  At the conclusion of the ceremony, family members will place a long-stem rose near their loved one’s name plate in the brass Memorial Wall.
