Chief Bratton Promotes Michel Moore to Deputy Chief

Los Angeles: Chief William J. Bratton has promoted Commander Michel Moore to the rank of Deputy Chief, Commanding Officer of Operations-West Bureau.

Commander Michel R. Moore is a 23-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, currently assigned as the Assistant to the Director, Office of Operations. He was born the second of five children in Porterville, California. He has lived in various parts of the United States, graduated high school in Conway, Arkansas in 1978, and returned to Southern California. He attended Antelope Valley Junior College, graduated in 1981 with an Associate of Arts Degree in Business.
He has held the ranks of detective, sergeant and lieutenant in various patrol, investigative, and administrative assignments throughout the City. Deputy Chief Moore promoted to the rank of Captain in 1998. As a Captain, his assignments were Commanding Officer of Central Operations Support Division, Rampart Operations Support Division, Management Services Division, and Rampart Area. Upon his promotion to Commander in January 2002, he was assigned as the Assistant Commanding Officer of Operations-Valley Bureau, then worked as the Assistant to the Director, Office of Operations. On September 5, 2004, Deputy Chief Moore will assume the command of Operations-West Bureau.
Deputy Chief Moore attended the University of Redlands, completing a Bachelors of Science in Business and Management in 1993, and a Masters of Business Administration in 1999. He has received numerous commendations and awards for his police service including the Police Medal, the Medal of Valor, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Deputy Chief Moore is a volunteer for the Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union and serves on the Supervisory Committee. He is a member of the Police Executive Research Forum, the Los Angeles County Peace Officers Association, the Latin American Law Enforcement Association, and the Los Angeles Women Peace Officers Association.
