Los Angeles: With the Holiday season upon us, and in the spirit of giving, the Los Angeles Police Department and the community it serves are combining efforts to donate unwrapped toys and books for the many under privileged children in the Los Angeles area.
In keeping with tradition, Chief William J. Bratton will announce the kick-off, of the Third Annual "LAPD Angels Toy Drive." People wishing to donate unwrapped toys or books can do so at any of the department’s 18 community police stations. Chief Bratton will be asking for those who will be donating books to write an inspirational message to a child for a prosperous New Year, on the inside cover of the book.
This year the Memorial Foundation will be donating 10,000 children’s activity books that teach children important traffic and safety tips. The back cover of the book has a contract for children and their parents to sign encouraging the children to keep safe and to have respect for law enforcement officials.
The Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization, which assists the widows and orphans left behind of officers killed in the line of duty. The Foundation also provides financial grants for officers who have been severely injured or disabled while performing their duties.
All eighteen of the Department’s police stations will be reaching out to those most in need in their communities by hosting toy and food giveaway programs.
