Los Angeles: Today, Chief Michel Moore met with Los Angeles City council member for the 9th District, Curren D. Price Jr., to discuss the status of the investigation involving the June 30th accidental explosion by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Bomb Squad as well as the recovery efforts for those injured or displaced. Chief Moore learned that a remark he had made during a news briefing on the incident involving Councilmember Price’s office had been misinterpreted. This media release is being made to ensure the record is clear.
On June 30, 2021 at approximately 9:50 a.m., the Department Operations Center (DOC) provided an initial description of the Bomb Squad Call Out at 716 E. 27th Street involving a large seizure of fireworks. At the time of the notification, the message advised "there are no known threats associated with this incident."
Neither Councilmember Price or anyone in his office was notified in advance of evacuations or the decision to destroy the illegal explosives on scene.
Chief Moore apologizes for any misinterpretation of his remarks or the questions they may have raised regarding what Councilman Price was aware of involving the June 30th accidental explosion.
