Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision with Pedestrian

Los Angeles: On Sunday, February 10, 2002, at approximately 8:20 p.m., a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision occurred when a pedestrian, 52 year-old Los Angeles resident, Joyce Marie Badger attempted to cross Adams Boulevard just west of St. Andrews Place.
Crossing Adams Boulevard approximately 120 feet outside of the marked crosswalk, Badger was successful in negotiating the eastbound lanes, however, when she reached the number two lane, she was struck by a westbound vehicle.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Badger to USC Medical Center where she was admitted for severe head trauma. On Thursday, February 14, 2002 at approximately 2:00 p.m., Badger succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by her attending physician. A preliminary investigation discovered no negligence against the driver of the vehicle. However, the investigation is continuing.
Last year, 2001, 55 pedestrians were killed in similar collisions within the City of Los Angeles. This figure represents a 37% increase in fatal pedestrian collisions, where the pedestrian was at fault, compared to the year 2000.
