"Detectives Investigate the Shooting Death of a 20 year-old"
 
Los Angeles: Central Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 20 year-old male Hispanic.
On Sunday, November 30, 2003, at about 2:10 a.m., Central Area patrol officers heard multiple gunshots in the area of 9th Street and Figueroa Street. Immediately following the shots, a patrol field supervisor observed a Black Dodge Pick-up truck exit the parking lot located on 9th Street between Figueroa Street and Flower Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle traveled northbound on Flower Street then turned westbound on 8th Street where it suddenly stopped and a passenger threw a handgun onto the roadway. When the patrol officers stopped the vehicle, it was determined that three of the four occupants had received gunshot wounds.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and rendered emergency treatment to all three victims prior to transporting them to Los Angeles County General Hospital. Two of the victims were treated for multiple gunshot wounds and were hospitalized. The third victim, a 20 year-old male Hispanic, failed to respond to treatment and was pronounced dead at about 2:45 a.m.
Simultaneously to this event, additional Los Angeles Police officers observed a late model Nissan Altima exit the same parking lot onto North Figueroa Street while several on lookers pointed and yelled at the officers to stop the Altima. Upon further observation the officers noted that there were three occupants in the vehicle and that the passenger in the right front seat appeared to be bleeding profusely. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the victim to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his leg.
The deceased victim has been identified as Daniel Hector Valles, a 20 year-old, male Hispanic.
Although the motive in this case remains unknown, Detectives have identified the parties involved and the investigation is on going.
