Los Angeles: On Sunday, March 14, 2004, at about 4:00 a.m., Van Nuys Area Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Shots Fired" in the 5800 block of Sepulveda Boulevard. When the officers arrived, they were met by a male witness. The witness told the officers that he and the victim, David Earl Cosgrove, a 21 year-old male White and resident of Van Nuys, were walking home from a bar, when two male Hispanics approached them. The suspects armed with at least one handgun demanded their money. The witness, in fear for his safety, started to run from the suspects. As he ran away, he heard a gun shot from behind. When he turned around, he saw the victim on the ground and the suspects running away.
Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and transported David Cosgrove to a local hospital where he died.
The motive for the shooting at this time appears to be Robbery related.
In addition to the above case, Van Nuys Homicide Detectives will also be requesting the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a separate murder case. The details of this case will be discussed at the news conference. A photo of the wanted suspect as well as the victim’s family members will be in attendance.
