Los Angeles: Three men were shot while standing on the sidewalk and two of them died, in the 5000 block of Slauson Avenue.
On Sunday, July 10, 2005, at about 12:15 AM, two suspected gang members walked up to the three men and made gang related statements. The suspects then fired several rounds, striking all three men.
16-year-old Cesar Mendez was pronounced dead at the scene. 23-year-old Antonio Tovar and an 18-year-old man were taken to a local hospital where Tovar died a short time later. The 18-year-old man received multiple gunshot wounds and is listed in critical condition.
None of the victims are gang affiliated.
The suspects were described as male Hispanics.
