Drive-By Shooting Victim in Critical Condition

Los Angeles: On Sunday, August 4, 2002, at approximately 5:35 a.m., citizens reported hearing multiple gunshots being fired in the 19200 block of Parthenia Street, in Northridge. Devonshire Area patrol officers responded to the location and observed unspecified evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. The scene rendered the appearance of a drive-by shooting and the officers secured the crime scene.
Moments later, the officers learned a citizen had transported a male Hispanic gunshot wound victim from 19218 Parthenia Street to a local hospital. The citizen had apparently been driving by and was flagged down by one or more pedestrians who requested him to drive the victim to the hospital.
The victim has been identified as Francisco Yanez, 25 years of age. The victim lives in Woodland Hills and it has not been established as to why he was at the location. The victim remains in extremely critical condition due to at least one upper body gunshot wound.
Devonshire Area Homicide Unit assumed responsibility for the case and completed the crime scene investigation. The detectives are continuing to attempt to locate witnesses and establish the motive for the crime. Information relative to the description of the suspect(s) is pending further interviews.
