Los Angeles. Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Valley Traffic detectives are asking for the public’s help with providing any information about a collision that left a teenager dead.
On October 2, 2010, around 2:11 a.m. LAPD Valley Traffic Area officers responded to a traffic collision on Laurel Canyon Boulevard south of Chamberlain Street. When the officers arrived, they discovered a young man who was lying on the ground near a bicycle unresponsive and a Saturn with a man in the driver’s seat nearby.
Los Angeles City rescue personnel responded and transported the bicyclist to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
LAPD Valley Traffic detectives’ investigation revealed that 26-year-old Shawn Fields was driving northbound on Laurel Canyon Boulevard approaching Chamberlin Street when he collided with a bicyclist. The force of the impact threw the bicyclist north of Chamberlin Street. Field’s car came to rest nearby the victim. As the investigation continued it was discovered that Field appeared to be intoxicated.
Fields was arrested and booked for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Driving Under the Influence under 191.5 (a) P.C. The bicyclist was a 17-year-old Sylmar resident.
