Driver Killed in a Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR16123rh

April 14, 2016

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department South Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect involved in a hit and run collision resulting in the death of a Los Angeles Resident.

On April 12, 2016, around 11:10 p.m., the driver in a 1970 VW Bug was travelling west on Imperial Hwy at the intersection of Main Street when he attempted to make a left turn and collided with a driver in a 2006 Dodge Magnum travelling east on Imperial Hwy.

The driver of the Dodge Magnum fled the scene without identifying himself or rendering aid to the victim, a violation of 20001 (A) VC, Hit and Run.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the location and transported 40-year-old Mr. Michael Byron Cobb, a resident of Los Angeles, to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The suspect’s vehicle is in police custody, but the suspect is still outstanding as the investigation continues.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
