Councilmember Koretz and LAPD West Traffic Division E-Scooter Enforcement Task Force WHAT: Press Conference

WHY: The purpose of this E-Scooter Task Force will be conducted in an effort to promote the safe usage of these devices on public roadways, education and enforcement of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) laws as it pertains to E-Scooter violations: -No Riding on the sidewalk -Only one rider per scooter, NO PASSENGERS -Scooter shall be operated in the bicycle lane when speed limit is at least 25 MPH -Headlamp at night -Leaving a scooter in a position on a sidewalk that prevents adequate space for pedestrians -Valid driver’s license or instruction permit required to operate an E-Scooter
Councilmember Paul Koretz asked the Department of Transportation to design and implement a sidewalk stencil “NO E-SCOOTER RIDING ON THE SIDEWALK-IT’S THE LAW.” West Traffic Division motorcycle officers will be monitoring high volume intersections in the FIFTH District, along Beverly Boulevard, Melrose Avenue and 3rd Street. Collectively as a group we have the responsibility for the safety of all who traverse the roadways.
