Los Angeles: On Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a fatal auto vs. auto traffic collision occurred at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard. The collision occurred when a silver 1987 Toyota Supra, which was travelling westbound on Jefferson Boulevard, collided into a brown 1987 Honda Civic, negotiating a left turn eastbound Jefferson Boulevard onto northbound La Brea Avenue.
The evidence at scene indicates the Toyota, which was being driven by 21-year old Jose Manuel Molina of Los Angeles, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the passenger side door of the Honda. The impact caused the Honda, which was being driven by 23-year old Yolanda Garibay of Los Angeles, to spin several times and rolled over onto it’s roof.
Los Angeles City Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported Molina and Garibay to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. Unfortunately, Ms. Garibay was pronounced dead by attending physicians. Molina was admitted into the hospital for observation. Blood tests to determine if alcohol or drugs played a part in the collision are still pending.
