Los Angeles – On Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at 6:20 p.m., two and a half year old Chris Cajina was struck and killed by a hit & run driver at 61st Street and Main Street in Los Angeles. Members of the Los Angeles Police Department located and arrested the suspect a short time later. The tragic death of the toddler was made all the more poignant in that it was witnessed by his parents and siblings. It was found that the immigrant family has very limited means with which to bury their child.
Members of LAPD were so moved by the tragedy that they quickly began a fund drive to provide assistance to the family. A fund has been established at a local bank to collect donations for the family. Any community member who would like to contribute to the fund drive can contact Sergeant Ken Kessner or Officer Kevin Jolivette at LAPD Newton Area Community Police Station at 323-846-6550.
