Fatal Collision Involving a 7 Year-old Boy in Northridge

 
Northridge – On Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Seven year old Luke Gaines was struck by a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero, while he ran across the street in front of his house. The Mitsubishi was driving on Alimos Street near Etiwanda Avenue when the collision occurred. The driver immediately stopped and called 911. Luke’s father, Mark Gaines is a Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedic, who was at the scene and administered first aid until the arrival of on duty emergency personnel. Luke was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
The driver was not detained nor cited. Valley Traffic Division Detectives are conducting the investigation. For further information, please contact Detective Gillett at 818-756-8391.
