Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR17312dm

Sylmar: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in a hit and run collision that killed a pedestrian.

On October 6, 2017, around 11:40 p.m., 26-year-old San Fernando resident Wilber Hernandez was walking across Gladstone Avenue, south of Bledsoe Street.The driver of a vehicle, described as a black BMW, struck Hernandez and fled the scene without identifying themselves, and did not render aid to the victim as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported Hernandez to a local hospital. On October 19, 2017, Hernandez died from the severe injuries he sustained in the traffic collision.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
