Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR24134dm

April 28, 2024

Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver, or drivers, involved in a hit and run traffic collision that killed a 65-year-old man.

On April 28, 2024, around 1:45 a.m., a pedestrian was crossing east on Western Avenue, south of Washington Boulevard, outside of a marked crosswalk. He was struck by a black pick-up truck traveling south on Western Avenue. The driver of the pick-up truck continued south on Western Avenue. A second vehicle, also traveling south on Western Avenue, may have collided with the pedestrian while he was laying on the roadway. Both drivers failed to remain at scene, identify themselves, or render aid to the pedestrian as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and, despite lifesaving efforts, pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene. The victim has not been identified.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
