Felony Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR24210ne

July 24, 2024

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division detectives are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a motorist.

On May 18, 2024, around 7:35 a.m., a 49-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound Avenue 20 when a white Ford pickup truck, with a rear metal utility rack, traveling westbound North Broadway entered the intersection against a red light and caused the male motorist to lay down his motorcycle, in an attempt to avoid the crash with the truck. In doing so, the motorist collided with the roadway and his body slid under a box truck traveling southbound Avenue 20, which ran him over. The Ford pickup truck fled the scene without stopping to render aid and identify him or herself.

The Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded, performed life-saving measures, and transported the male motorist to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries sustained from the crash.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
