On August 4, 1999, at approximately 9 AM, members of the Foothill Area CLEAR team, arrested Leopoldo Chavez, a local gang member, at his Pacoima home at 10377 Cayuga St. Chavez is on parole for burglary and is a registered sex offender. He had been deported to Mexico. Chavez was wanted for violating his parole, returning to the United States illegally and for not complying with sex registrant regulations.
Members of the Foothill CLEAR team, a Federal and State funded program that teams Los Angeles Police Officers with Probation officers and District and City Attorneys to combat gang violence, learned from Chavez’ parole officer that he was residing at the Cayuga location. Foothill CLEAR Police Officers, probation and parole officers went to Chavez’ residence, arrested him and searched the location incident to his parole status. Officers recovered nine (9) rifles, shotguns and handguns and approximately 500 rounds of ammunition from the location.
Chavez, a 25 year old Hispanic was booked for ex-felon with a gun. A no-bail parole hold was placed on him.
Weapons are available for photos at Foothill Station between the hours of 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM on August 4, 1999.
