Gang Related Shooting At Party Results In Death

Los Angeles: On Sunday, May 11, 2003 at approximately 4:08 a.m., Rampart Patrol officers responded to 1506 West 11th Place to investigate the report of shots being fired at the location. Upon officers arrival they observed a victim on the ground with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and administered emergency first aid. The victim was transported to USC Medical Center where the victim died as a result of his injuries.
The investigation revealed the victim was present at a party when three male Hispanics approached the party goers that were standing outside the apartment building. There was an exchange of words between the male suspects and the male members of the party group. The male suspects physically assaulted the male party members and demanded their money and jewelry. One of the suspects armed himself with a handgun and started shooting at the group and struck the victim as he lay on the ground. The suspects then ran to a vehicle and were last seen driving towards Union Avenue. The vehicle is described as a possible 1976 Buick 2 door, black/white. The weapon is believed to be a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Juan Gutierrez, 20 years of age, for 187 PC Murder. A second suspect, Emilio Perez was arrested for 182/187 PC, Conspiracy to Commit Murder. Two additional suspects, described only as two male Hispanics, are being sought in connection with this investigation. The motive for the shooting appears to be gang related. The victim is a male Hispanic, 25/30 years of age and no identity is available at this time.
