Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department’s Topanga Area Detectives, Theft Section are
seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and apprehending a
suspect who has committed grand thefts in the San Fernando
Valley.
On May 16, 2017, around 12:25 p.m., the suspect entered a Boost
Mobile cellular phone business located in the 19700 block of
Vanowen Street, in the City of Winnetka. The suspect asked the
salesperson to see new iPhones. When the salesperson refused to
show the suspect the phones and directed him to their display
models, the suspect accused the salesperson of being racist.
Fearing being labeled a racist, the salesperson presented the new
iPhones to the suspect. Once the phones were in his reach, the
suspect grabbed the phones and fled the business.
Later that day, around 2:50 p.m., the suspect went to another
cellular phone business in the City of Oxnard. The suspect used the
same tactic and stole an additional iPhone and Samsung Galaxy
S8.
The suspect is described as a male black, 22-28 years old, stands 5
feet 11 inches tall, weighs 150-170 pounds, and has short black
hair.
